Week Two - Sunday
Collect
Ora / Pray
Almighty and merciful God,
may no earthly undertaking hinder those
who set out in haste to meet your Son,
but may our learning of heavenly wisdom
gain us admittance to his company.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Labora / Work
Only sixteen more days until Christmas. Does that strike a bit of concern in your heart and mind? Are all the gifts chosen? Is all the food purchased; the ingredients for the fudge, the divinity, the peanut patties, the breads, etc.? How about Christmas breakfast and dinner? Do you have a sitter booked for the company Christmas party? Ok, take a deep breath. Read the Collect again. Have you and your spouse “set out in haste to meet [God’s] Son?” Or have you set out in haste in earthly undertakings? Maybe a conversation needs to be had to decide together how to balance those things that get in the way of celebrating the real meaning of Christmas, the celebration of the birth of Christ as a family. Create a menu of Christmas goodies, breakfast, and dinner together and decide how you can prepare as much as possible together. Get the whole family involved. It might take a little longer, but think of the fun. Also in that conversation decide what events are most important to attend this year. Maybe cancel some events so that your family can sit down and play a game together. Think of the memories you can make if you leave room in your schedule to be a family. “Family, become what you are.” (St. John Paul II)
